MALDIVES
Magnificent coral atolls that rise from the sea to form perfect surfing reefs, immersed in the Indian Ocean, tropical islands with pristine beaches, crystal clear sea, and an extraordinary fauna with turquoise lagoons that make it a real paradise.
The tropical climate, influenced by the monsoon, is characterized by two distinct seasons, the wet and the dry. The dry season, called in the local language “Iruvai”, starts from November and lasts until the end of April and corresponds to the monsoon “dry” during which the wind comes from the northeast (from Asia). The wet season, called in the local language “Hulhangu”, runs from May until late October and takes the “wet” wind from the southwest (from the bottom of the Indian Ocean, South Africa) accompanied frequently by the monsoon rains. The atolls of north and south Male work mainly during the "wet" monsoon season or from May to November.
The most famous spots such as jailbreaks, Sultan, Honkys, Pasta Point, Lohis, Ninjas, and Coke's Chicken are on the Male North Atoll. The waves are generally easy and accessible also to intermediate surfers (except the most challenging spots such as Coke's, Chickens, and Sultan are only for advanced surfers, especially with a medium to large swell) and are unlikely to exceed 6/7 feet. From July to September you can find the most consistent waves with the biggest swells of the season but it is definitely the time when the spots are more crowded.
